Msn Messenger Voice Conversation Behind ISA Firewall
Hell, you can't even run 'ping' without having to define both an app rule (for the outbound connect) and then a global rule (to receive back the UDP packet). Version 3 is just too clumsy to use. Version 2.4 of Comodo's firewall is still very good. I don't use Comodo anymore (but it is in my top two choices if I

Jillions of Firewall Hits
There was a rule in the firewall to forward all web traffic to the ISA port 8080. This was just to catch clients and app that did not use wpad.dat and proxy.pac files which point directly to ISA. We have now replaced it with a Cisco ASA and they do not have the ability to forward outbound web traffic to a proxy

D-link router DI-604!
If you're really concerned about either of those, a good outbound firewall and making sure to stay informed and patched is a far more logical way to deal On the other intersection you can't define a problem and the usually rules of being prudent are justified. I can't imagine the city council approving a huge

Just for reference, the KB article I posted earlier lists the 8 programs that need inbound or outbound permissions in the firewall. What I discovered was that even if I had ALL the firewall rules set up correctly for each of the Extender related programs, if the XBox is NOT added to the Trusted list (either by

BTW what Linux firewall monitors outbound traffic and puts a pop up on the screen to inform the user of possible outbound rogue traffic? Could. I prefer to keep logs in front of me, have 2 separate firewalls (one external, one internal), run portsentry and snort, and from time to time, I turn snort and swap rules

Windows as Proxy Server vs. other firewall approaches.....
Software on the computer connects out to a server (an outbound connection) and gets responses back from the server. Windows Firewall allows all outbound connections, but applies rules to the types of communication that are allowed back into the computer. For more information about what network traffic Windows

WIRELESS COMPUTER ROUTERS
You should install a firewall and a key logger to compensate for your personal weaknesses. In summary, if you are in doubt, or if you are not convinced that you have the skills to manage without an outbound firewall, or if you lack the fortitude to enforce rules on your children that have definite consequences for

Windows Vista Firewall Settings
I've been trying to turn it off by making new inbound rules to block ICMPv4 and ICMPv6 (custom rule, applies to all programs and services, protocal numbers 1 and 41, all local/remote Ip addresses, all profiles). You'd need to enable the outbound firewall, since a ping reply is an outbound message. -- Jon.

I have outbound firewall rules set and have assigned both interior and exterior IP numbers to the gateway. Intel's instructions are of no help since they even reverse the location of the interior and exterior connections. If anyone has any exerience configuring one of these I would appreciate any information you

Sessions lost after 5 minutes?
My first guess would be to use the single-NIC option, since all inbound and outbound traffic will go through the one "public" NIC. if I go with any of the other templates, ISA will go into full firewall mode, and start trying to move traffic from one network (interface) to another, based on network rules.

But, you can use Shorewall or some other application to set rules for outbound traffic. If you want to do things the hard way you can set up the firewall with iptables. And Matt.. and Charlie.. thanks for the replies. Yes, I regularly use Webmin. Ran shorewall on my M9.1 installation, but not yet on my 10.1.

I am behind a firewall/http proxy which seems to only allow outbound connections on ports 80 & 443 for web browsing. This is not enough for me, The idea is that I will set up corresponding forwarding rules on the router. Is that sound? PS. Unless I missed it Kmail does not have settings for SOCKS.

Microsoft's not totally abandoning consumers on the Vista firewall issue. Inbound filtering, for instance, will be managed much like in Windows XP, said the company's spokesperson. But if users choose to turn on outbound filtering in Vista, they'll have to rely on "outbound filtering rules that are enabled by

Blocking Ping requests in Windows Vista

had thought the idea was to use this leapfrog program to pierce outbound firewall rules from the inside by telnet'ing to an allowed port, such as port 80, where you had postitioned leapfrog to listen, thereby giving yourself a telnet gateway even though outbound port 23 was prohibited by the firewall rules.

Disable Norton nag screen??
The addition of a stateful firewall doesn't add much *if* NAT is already in place, but it might let you add some static firewall rues ( blocking specific source / destination etc ), and of course you could add outbound firewall rules too. You can use this for example to prevent a virus on your LAN from

Exchange 5.5 Topology
With the introduction of UAC this is no longer the case - the potential is there for a fairly robust outbound firewall + UAC combination. Malware can circumvent every last bit of it and even punch through a PFW 3rd party or not and set its own rules as to not be detected, and they do just that.
